Ballet Supplies and Equipment

balletequipment

What supplies and equipment do you need for a ballet class? As far as supplies go, take a look at the dancewear section of this website. There I talk all about what you will need to wear to class. These include leotards, tights, skirts, tutus and shoes. There are also accessories for pointe shoes to make them more comfortable. You may also need hair ties and bobby pins to keep your hair out of your face. It is also a good idea to have a bag for all of your dancewear. There are several different kinds of bags for dancers. There are large duffle bags for those dancers who have many shoes and changes or clothes. There are also back packs and tote bags for younger children who may only have to carry one or two pairs of shoes.

If you are going to take a ballet class it is a good idea to become familiar with the equipment that you are going to use. Ballet really doesn't have a lot as far as equipment.  Traditional ballet classes use ballet barres, full length mirrors on the walls, and a floor that is supportive and geared toward ballet dancing (one that is not too slick or too sticky).

For young dancers, much of this equipment is not necessary. Pre ballet students do not need mirrors or barres. The main purpose of the class is creativity and not strict ballet exercises. Young dancers may be distracted by these extra elements as well.
